Course outline
This course is perfect if you are wanting to learn a broad range of photography skills and would like to have a career in photography.
You’ll learn and develop a set of practical skills, exploring photographic techniques, equipment and materials, as well as undertaking research into the work of photographers. You will also gain an understanding of software used in photography and digital graphics.
You can expect to cover units including:
- Photographic equipment
- Processes and techniques
- Photographic images for presentation
- Experimental photographic images
- Lighting for photography
You will produce a portfolio of work throughout the year.

Entry requirements | You’ll need 4 GCSEs at grades 3–1 (D–G), including English Language and Maths at grades 3–1 (D–G), or a relevant Entry 3 vocational qualification and you will also be asked to sit an initial assessment. The initial assessment must show that you are ready to study English and maths at Level 1. If your results are lower than this, don't worry, we'll find the right course for you. |

Progression | Choose to follow with a Level 2 Diploma in Photography, or photography-related courses, followed by employment in industry. |
