Professional Sewing Skills — Part-time

This professional pattern cutting and sewing skills course is for those with some knowledge and confidence in sewing, now wanting to develop your skills to create your own patterns, and understanding of working in the fashion manufacturing industry.

This course is broken down into 3 six-week sessions where you will learn to develop your sewing techniques, pattern drafting skills to fit your own form, and finally, professional sewing using industry standard sewing machines and overlockers to complete a final garment.

Manufacturing techniques will cover:

• Using domestic sewing machines and overlockers
• Straight and shaped waistbands
• Front and back bodice with yoke
• Gathered and puffed sleeve
• Mock and shirt cuff
• Flat and mandarin collar
• Shirt collar and collar with rivers

Pattern cutting will cover:

• Introduction to pattern drafting
• Front and back bodice block with sleeve
• Basic skirt, Asymmetrical and Aline
• Trouser block, fit, flare, gathered and jean adaptations

Professional sewing skills will be:

• Using the skills from both manufacturing and pattern cutting you will create a design, pattern and final garment of your choice using industry standard lockstitch sewing machines and overlockers.

You will create portfolios of evidence along the way and finish with a production pack containing costings, size chart and manufacturing instructions.
