This course is suitable for beginners or anyone wanting to improve their cake decorating skills. You will learn how to cover a cake with icing and make festive decorations.

Topics include:

  • Using sugar paste to make a design of your choice
  • Cover a cake with marzipan
  • Modelling techniques
  • Individual and personalised decorations

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements but a good standard of English is required.

Teaching & assessment

Tutors will give regular verbal and written feedback. You will be required to complete an Individual learning plan (ILPs) encouraged to set your own personal targets as part of this course.


There may be opportunities to progress onto other courses both in the community and at Nottingham college sites. The course tutor can discuss appropriate opportunities for learners wishing to further their learning in this subject area.
