Course outline
This course will focus on developing sewing skills to produce a professional finished garment and is suitable for both beginners and improvers.
Topics include learning how to:
- Take body measurements
- Create a simple pattern for your own measurements
- Use both sewing machines lock stitch and over locker
- Sew different types of seams and seam finishes

Entry requirements | You must be aged 19+ and have a good standard of English as you will be required to complete a short workbook with the help of your tutor. Where a course is held at the Asian Women's Centre, it is for women only. |
Teaching & assessment | Tutors will give regular verbal and written feedback. You will be required to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and encouraged to set your own personal targets as part of this course. This course is a fun and practical introduction to sewing! |
Progression | There may be opportunities to progress onto other courses both in the community and at Nottingham College sites. The course tutor can discuss appropriate opportunities if you wish to further your learning in this subject area.

Additional information | You will need to bring your own tools, materials and an apron. The tutor will provide guidance and what equipment can be purchased at the start of the course.
