Sports Activities Industry Skills (Level 2) — Full-time
Course outline
This course is perfect if you want to embark on a career in the children's sport and activity industry.
There are two pathways to choose from:
- Sports Activities Industry Skills
- Notts County Football Club Sports Activities Industry Skills
If you would like to join the NCFC course, you will have a football trial at Notts County and they will make the decision as to whether you are suitable.
Examples of units studied include:
- Working in the sport and active industry
- PE in schools
- Sports leadership
- Working as a sports leader
You will undertake sports coaching and activity work placements within organisations such as:
- Primary schools
- Sport national governing bodies
- Broxtowe Borough Council
- Nottingham City Council
- Nottinghamshire County Council
Classroom based lessons are held at the Basford Centre and the practical sessions are delivered at community venues. At present, all practical sessions are delivered at Harvey Hadden. We have excellent links with local sports facilities and local professional sports teams to maximise your study opportunities. You’ll get to enjoy learning and playing sport in a fun and friendly environment with experienced coaches and tutors.

Entry requirements | You’ll need 4 GCSEs at grades 9–3 (A*–D), including English Language and Maths – one of English Language or Maths must be grade 9–4 (A*–C). Functional Skills Level 1 can be used as equivalent to GCSE grade 3 (D) and Functional Skills Level 2 can be used as equivalent to GCSE grade 4 (C) or above. Entry onto the Notts County Football Club pathway is also subject to a football trial at Notts County and they will make the decision as to whether you are suitable. |
Progression | Choose to follow with a Level 3 programme in one of Nottingham College’s exciting sports pathways or you could also apply for one of the many apprenticeships available through Nottingham College. Alternatively you could seek employment within a wide range of roles in the sport, fitness and leisure industry. |
