The field of education is ever changing and opportunities arise within it for an appropriately qualified workforce who can deliver specialist training.
This course allows you to develop generic skills in teaching and learning as well as providing an opportunity for supporting students with special educational needs.
If you have a Level 5 teaching qualification (ie Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS), Certificate in Education or Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (ProfGCE)) you can apply for direct entry onto Year 2 of the course.
The course provides a professional qualification for people working not just in schools but in a wide range of support roles including further and higher education and the voluntary sector. It helps you develop an understanding of the origins of learning disabilities and difficulties and provides techniques for supporting students with special educational needs.
The course follows a blended-learning approach. You will need to have a placement in an appropriate educational setting for a minimum of 3 hours per week.

We would expect students to be working at (or to demonstrate competency at) Level 2 or above in English/literacy and maths/numeracy.

|Teaching & assessment||
Each module is internally assessed through individual or group assignments, which can be practical, making use of current educational thinking.
Assignments are sector-focused, eg lifelong learning or compulsory education, to develop the relevant skills of analysis and evaluation.
You could continue into a generic BA (Hons) Education degree or a specialist top-up degree.
You could then progress onto a PGCE, SCITT, Teach First or School Direct course. You will need GCSEs grade C/4 or above in English Language, Maths and Science for a primary school teacher post.
