Priority Skills for D2N2

The Priority Skills for D2N2 SMEs project aims to support SMEs across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire to access free bespoke, employer-led training, staff development, career coaching and advice to upskill their employees in vocational and high-level technical skills.

Nottingham College are offering a range of short, sharp, bespoke courses designed around the needs of your business. These courses are developed through co-design with the relevant industry to ensure they are fit for purpose and help to address the current skills shortages in the D2N2 area.

Funded Courses

We are currently working on developing our funded courses for the Priority Skills for SMEs project. To register your interest in upcoming courses, please email hls@​nottinghamcollege.​ac.​uk.

Who will benefit from this project?

The project will specifically support employees who may face additional barriers to high-level skills, including:

  • Women
  • Employees aged 50
  • Employees with disabilities 
  • Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) staff 
  • Those who have previously missed out on traditional educational opportunities 

This project is about enhancing equal access to lifelong learning, including practical routes to earning learning credits towards further qualifications.

Who is eligible?

SMEs based that are based in the D2N2 area (Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire) are eligible for support.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are defined as: 

  • Less than 250 employees 
  • Annual turnover under EUR 50 million or; 
  • Annual balance sheet less than EUR 43 million 

This project is part-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF).

What are the rest of the consortium offering?

Nottingham College is part of a consortium working together to deliver this ground-breaking programme, which is funded by the European Social Fund (ESF). The consortium includes Nottingham College, Nottingham Trent University, Derby College, the University of Derby, and Nottingham City Council.

  • Derby College
    Bespoke creation of courses depending on individual needs delivered through e‑learning and face-to-face delivery, and bi-monthly employer academies to influence the curriculum. 
  • Nottingham Trent University
    Leadership and management courses designed to help women in SMEs to develop their careers and their capability to manage and lead within their organisations. 
  • University of Derby
    A suite of new, high-quality blended learning courses covering business, marketing, manufacturing, engineering and technology
