The Ilkeston Town FC Education Academy opened its doors in August 2018!
It’s been a phenomenal phoenix from the ashes story since 21 July 2017 when Nottingham businessman Alan Hardy announced his purchase of Ilkeston FC for an undisclosed fee from the club’s liquidators.
Hardy, who owns several successful companies, including Paragon Interiors and the Nottinghamshire Golf and Country Club, and who also acquired Notts County Football Club in January 2017, struck a deal to secure the future of the club after it was wound up in the High Court.
Upon completing the purchase of Ilkeston FC, Hardy announced that the club’s name will revert to Ilkeston Town Football Club with immediate effect.
Ilkeston Town entered the Midland Football League Division One for the 2017-18 season, appointed former player and academy manager Steve Chettle as first-team manager. The had a successful season finishing 2nd in their first league season.
Now the club are launching a new 16-18 education academy for young talented players aspiring to develop their footballing skills whilst also gaining recognised qualifications at level 2 and 3 in sport. These qualifications will provide a great opportunity to develop your academic knowledge and vocational skills that can pave the way for university, a job or further training to employment. There will be a range of opportunities to develop your coaching and leadership skills through supporting the new links created with the junior football club.
You may also have to study mathematics and English if you have not achieved GCSE grade C in those subjects.
Ilkeston Town FC is very much a club on the up and there are strong links to professional football that could pave the way to the elite game for those with the right attitude and exceptional talent.
It’s a great time to get involved.
