What to bring with you to enrol

Please bring with you everything you need to enrol on a course with us. This includes: 

  • One form of identification 
  • Visa/​Permit or Home Office letter, if applicable. 
  • Your exam results/​certificates, particularly your GCSE English and Maths. 
  • Proof of up-to-date benefit evidence, including your National Insurance Number, please see below for acceptable forms of evidence. 
  • Payment, if applicable. Please see below if you will be required to pay any course fees and how to pay.

If you want to apply for support to pay for your course fees from Student Funding, you will need to provide your income evidence and complete an online application online. Proof of Household Income if less than £35,000 gross, can be your most recent payslip(s) or Tax Credit Award Notice 2023 – 24.

Fee Remission

Fee remission is available to students on some Further Education courses in the following circumstances:

*Low Income Learner has to be employed and earning less than £20,319 Gross per annum – you will need to provide evidence (wage slips) of your salary. Please bring 2 months’ worth of your latest pay slips. 

Please note: In addition to the above, you may be entitled to fee support from student finance if your household income is less than £35,000 Gross for Entry/​Level1/​Level 2 courses. 

Accepted Benefits

19+ years old FE students studying courses at level 2 and below who are unemployed and wishing to enter employment and need skills training, will be eligible for full fee remission where the learning is directly relevant to both the individual’s employment prospects and the needs of the local labour market. 

For fee remission purposes a student is defined as unemployed if one or more of the following apply: 

  • They receive Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), including those receiving National Insurance credits only. 
  • They receive Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • They receive Universal Credit and their earned income from employment (disregarding benefits) is less than £617 a month (student is sole adult in their benefit claim) or £988 a month (student has a joint benefit claim with their partner) 
  • Are released on temporary license, studying outside a prison environment, and not funded by the Ministry of Justice. 
  • Nottingham College will use their discretion to fund other students: 
  • They are in receipt of other state benefits (list of eligible benefits below) and their earned income (disregarding benefits) is less than £617 a month (student is sole adult in their benefit claim) or £988 a month (student has a joint benefit claim with their partner). 
  • Income support
  • Housing benefit
  • Council Tax benefit (not single person’s allowance) 
  • Pension Guarantee Credit 
  • Disability Living Allowance 
  • Personal Independence payments 
  • Dependants of individuals in receipt of any of the above benefits – must be named on the benefit evidence. 
  • Asylum seekers on the equivalent of a means tested benefit – AZURE card, Aspen Card and issue letter with the student’s name on, Local authority support under section S23C or S23CA of the children’s act 1989S21 national assistance ACT 1948 and those with section 4 support). 
  • Dependants of individuals in receipt of Working Tax credit who are themselves unemployed – must be named on the award letter. 

How to Pay

  • Cash
  • Cheque made payable to Nottingham College”

  • Approved Advanced Learner Loan 
  • Approved HE Student Loan 
  • Sponsor/​Employer Letter must include a Purchase Order number, Name of student, Course title and amount of the course fees the company is covering 
  • Instalment Plan
  • If the course fee is £200 or less or the course duration is 10 weeks or less, then the full course fee including all exams and costs is payable at enrolment 
  • Course fees for courses over £200 and more than 10 weeks in duration can be paid in instalments as prescribed in the college’s instalment agreement with the student at enrolment. The first payment will be taken at enrolment and the payment plan must be complete at least six weeks before the learner completes the course. 
  • If the course costs more than £200 but less than £500 and is 10 weeks or more in duration an instalment plan of up to four months is available, but this must not exceed the duration of the course and must complete at least six weeks prior to the end of the course. 
  • If a course costs more than £500 and is 10 weeks or more in duration an instalment plan of up to 6 months is available, but this must not exceed the duration of the course and must complete at least six weeks prior to the end of the course.
