Alina — Digital Media Design BA (Hons) Top-up Degree
This course has, and still, teaches me how to push my limits, how to prepare myself for the real world and how to build my future.
Alina — Degree-level photography —
Alina Moldovean, 22, studied the two-year Foundation Degree Photography Practice course at College and enjoyed it so much that she progressed to the Digital Media Design BA (Hons) Top-up Degree. She tells us why she chose Nottingham College for her degree, what she loves about photography, and her plans for the future.
Why Digital Media Design?
I enjoy being creative and seeing everything from a different point of view. I mainly do portraits and I strongly believe every person has something to say/show. I don’t want to just take photos; I want to create stories through my projects.
Why did you choose College over university?
Studying for my degree at Nottingham College felt right. The classes are smaller and it is easier for me to communicate with people. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, and because it’s smaller than a university setting, I can make friends much easier. The Library is really helpful too. I can always find what I need, every time.

What do you like about your course?
I feel like I can be myself and have the freedom to do what I love.
It also includes guest speakers, where professional photographers talk about their work and what it’s like to be a photographer. I enjoy the projects I have to work on, and with lots of one-to-one support from my teachers I can achieve what I want.
I love being creative — it makes me feel so happy, and on this course I learn something new every day. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone thinking of a career in design or photography.
What are your future goals?
My plan after College is to do a Masters in photography and learn more about the industry.
My dream job is to have my own studio and do Fine Art Photography. I also want to travel and create new stories about people. I want to meet people from different countries and hear their stories and traditions etc.
In this example of Alina's work, she wanted to capture confidence, strength and beauty.
