Jessica — 

29-year-old Jessica is a Dental Laboratory Assistant. She’s on the part-time Level 3 Dental Technology course as part of a training scheme through her employer.

Why she chose the course

Jessica said: ​“I had already finished a degree course, but wasn’t sure what I wanted to do next. I decided that I wanted to go back and change career back to science.

“It was hard to do that without having a specific qualification, so doing it this way (working and studying at the same time) was really good.”

Why she recommends the part-time Dental Technology course

Jessica said: ​“I’d absolutely recommend this course as a route into the industry. 

“That’s because it’s quite a specific qualification and it’s vocational, practical and career-related. You get hands-on, practising industry-specific transferable skills.

“When I finish the course, I’ll become a qualified dental technician.

“I will be able to register with the General Dental Council (GDC), which is the professional body for the industry.” 

Learning lots of skills and collaborating

Jessica likes the fact that she learns a range of skills on the course. 

She also works with students from different workplaces.
