Supported Learning — Introduction to Catering and Hospitality

Dior working in the canteen kitchen at Stapleford

My favourite thing about college is being able to try different things and learn new skills. I really enjoy working in the kitchen, it’s a lot of fun and my confidence is really improving.

Dior Moisey, Introduction to Hospitality and Catering. —

First Year Introduction to Catering and Hospitality student Dior Moisey started studying at our Stapleford Campus earlier this year. He tells us how he his course has improved his confidence and is allowing him to learn the skills he will need to get a job in the hospitality industry in the future.

Dior is one of the students who regularly works in the canteen at the Stapleford campus. Dior and his classmates share a range of responsibilities, from preparing menu items, drawing up allergen lists and designating other kitchen tasks between them (such as cleaning, tidying, and maintaining equipment), to preparing food orders and serving customers (their fellow students, tutors, and other college staff) during the lunchtime service.

My course is going well, and I have a lot of fun. Learning new skills and being around students with similar needs to mine is really reassuring as everyone is very understanding of each other.

enjoy getting to know new people and really enjoy working in the kitchen, it’s such a nice environment.

When I finish here, I want to get a job working in a café or restaurant. Everything I am learning on my course is really helping me improve my confidence and learn the skills I will need.”
