This occupation is found in a range of private and public settings including full day care, children’s centres, pre-schools, reception classes, playgroups, nursery schools, home based provision, hospitals, social care settings, out of school environments and local authority provision to deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements set by government for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 in both indoor and outdoor environments.
The broad purpose of the occupation is to work and interact directly with children on a day to day basis supporting the planning of and delivery of activities, purposeful play opportunities and educational programmes within the ethos of the setting. An EYP works as part of a professional team ensuring the welfare and care for children under the guidance and supervision of an Early Years Educator, teacher or other suitably qualified professional the Early Years Workforce.
With the staff team, you will learn to deliver a programme of exciting opportunities and activities suitable to the age range of developmental needs of the children in your room. This will motivate their learning and help them to integrate into the nursery.
Duration: 15 months
Early Years Practitioner - Level 2 Standard
You will need 4 GCSEs at grades 9 to 3/A* to D or equivalent including English Language and Maths. Some employers may require additional qualifications depending on the role
You will also need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in a relevant job.
Adults who are aged 19+ with appropriate industry experience but without the necessary qualifications are welcome to apply.
All applicants will be required to undertake an assessment in English and maths prior to enrolling.
You must complete an assessment at the end of your apprenticeship to show what you have learned and that you can perform all parts of your job. The assessment is called an End Point Assessment.
You can progress to the Early Years Educator Level 3 Apprenticeship.
