Meet Izzy — From High-Powered Job in London to a Passion for Carpentry and Joinery
The advice I would give to a female that’s interested in the course is to come along. I’ve really enjoyed it and never noticed any differences with how I’ve been treated and it’s really nice.
Izzy Wilding — Student
Izzy Wilding, 33, has taken an unexpected turn in her career. With a background in broadcast journalism and a former job at the Financial Ombudsman in London, she has recently made a bold decision to pursue carpentry and joinery.
After being inspired by DIY videos on YouTube, Izzy decided to enroll in a Level 1 Carpentry and Joinery course at Nottingham College. She wanted to get hands-on experience and learn how to create something real and tangible. She found the course rewarding, as it allowed her to use various different tools and techniques to create something from scratch.
Recently, Izzy completed a bookcase that is well beyond the expectations for her qualification. The bookcase is a beautiful piece of furniture that showcases her newfound skills and her passion for woodworking. She decided to donate the bookcase to her local community center in Lenton, where she and her little boy attend toddler swim and soft play.
The center is excited to receive the bookcase, as they plan to use it for a book swap event with the local library. The book swap event will be a great opportunity for the community to come together and share their love of reading. The bookcase itself will be a great addition for the event, showcasing Izzy’s skills and craftsmanship.
Izzy’s journey from a high-powered job in London to carpentry and joinery is a testament to the versatility of skills and the opportunities open to learners at Nottingham College. With a range of courses and apprenticeships available, anyone can learn a new skill or make a career change. Izzy’s story is an inspiration to anyone who is looking to try something new and follow their passion.
