News: Spotting the early signs of skin cancer

To help celebrate Sun Awareness Week, the College teamed up with Skin Cancer charity, Skcin, on 15th/16th May to pass on advice to beauty therapy students about how they could spot the early signs of skin cancer whilst treating clients.

Around 80 students from our Clarendon campus were given special training by representatives from Skcin.

The key objectives of the programme are to increase the knowledge of the early signs and symptoms of skin cancer, promote the early detection of melanoma to improve prognosis and save lives, and raise awareness of the importance of protecting yourself from the sun.

Head of Faculty, Caroline Sheard, said: “It was great that the College was asked to be involved in this vitally important campaign and that our students were able to learn first-hand about a key role they can play in supporting the initiative. It was very well received by the students and we hope that their training will stand them in good stead to support the awareness of skin cancer detection in the future.”
