How accessible this website is
We know some parts of this website may not be fully accessible. These areas include:
- Alternative text missing on some images not considered decorative
- Some pages and document attachments are not written in plain English
- Some documents are in PDF format and are not accessible

Technical information about this website’s accessibility
Nottingham College is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
- Images on some pages do not always have suitable image descriptions. Users of assistive technologies may not have access to information conveyed in images.
This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content).
- Many documents are in less accessible formats, for example PDF. Non-HTML documents published on or after 23 September 2018 must have an accessible format. This includes:
- Some PDF documents may not have an appropriate title (WCAG 2.4.2 Page titled)
- Some PDF documents may not have accessible alternative text for image content (WCAG 1.1.1 Non-text content)
- Our Cookie Management Platform (CMP) CookieBot implements a cookie consent banner that fails WCAG testing on WCAG2AA.Principle4.Guideline4_1.4_1_2.H91.Button.Name and WCAG2AA.Principle3.Guideline3_2.3_2_2.H32.2. To mitigate this, Nottingham College has implemented additional modifications to the consent banner to resolve invalid HTML structure issues.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
Non-HTML documents published before September 2018 do not need to be accessible - unless users need them to use a service.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
The following areas are being addressed or are currently in review relative to the WCAG 2.2 AA criteria.
WCAG 1.1.1 (Non-text Content)
Images that do not have suitable alternative text have been identified and will be updated in an ongoing manner, as the Nottingham College website has thousands of images across all its total pages. We have created an alternative text validation flow within our Content Management System (CMS) to ensure alternative text is provided for any image used. This is now mandatory, and website content cannot be published without this being in place. Older image assets used before this date will now also flag this problem when attempting to save content since implementing this additional validation. In situations where images do not relate or convey important meaning, these are marked as decorative to avoid confusing contexts for users.
WCAG 1.1.1 Non-text content (PDF) and WCAG 2.4.2 Page titled (PDF)
Nottingham College is aiming to reduce the use of PDF documents where possible and instead replace these with HTML documents to improve accessibility. Some PDF documents on our website may not meet these requirements currently. A separate audit is being undertaken to identify non-compliant PDF documents and provide accessible alternatives or update PDF documents to comply, if not able to be made into HTML documents.
Cookie Consent Banner (WCAG 3.2.3 and 4.1.2)
The default customisable cookie consent banner provided by CookieBot does not meet WCAG accessibility guidelines. We have entered into dialogue with CookieBot about non-compliance on multiple occasions around WCAG areas. Nottingham College has attempted to mitigate this issue by making modifications to the default banner implementation through the CookieBot SDK.
