Course introduction
Our Entry Level Pathway to Study course at High Pavement gives students a relaxed and scaffolded introduction to college, enabling students to build foundational skills in English, Maths, and other areas, to help them progress onto future study programmes.
What will be studied?
English and Maths
Students will focus on foundational English and Maths skills which will help them prepare for their next steps, whether that be Level One or GCSE study. Students will work towards AQA Step up to English (Gold) and AQA ELC Maths qualifications, which are both Entry Level Three qualifications. These will provide students with foundational skills in a low-stakes environment, allowing us to work at pace which is best fits each group.
Entry Level Science
Students will engage with the three core sciences on a termly basis: Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The delivery of the sciences will align to projects to help place science in real-life contexts. Successful past examples have included: linking biodiversity with college garden planting project, and exploring different habitats with making our own bee hotels.
Personal and Social Development Sessions
Alongside this, students will have a variety of personal and social development sessions, focused on building core skills such as IT skills, communication, and teamwork. There will be a number of project-based tasks throughout the year which will enable students to develop these skills, whilst engaging with a variety of interesting topics.
Students will also have one Tutorial sessions a week with their Personal Tutor. They will be responsible for helping students set targets throughout the year, and work with them to establish how they will achieve them. They will also work with students to establish progression goals, and will work with them when applying for future courses.
What will a typical week look like?
Students will be timetabled for 13 hours a week, which is broken down below. Students will usually have at least one day off a week, and will typically have breaks between lessons throughout the day.
