News: Celebrating the diversity of our students and staff at our first ever Culture Day!

At Nottingham College we’re really lucky to have such a diverse student community. Culture Day has been a great opportunity for staff and students to come together to celebrate and promote diversity and inclusion, share traditions and cultural customs and have fun.

The day consisted of traditional dishes from around the world being served from our City Hub café, with proceeds going to charity while cultural music was enjoyed by students and staff.

Later in the afternoon more than 30 students took part in a fashion catwalk show, representing cultural outfits from 13 different countries, including Syria, Kurdistan and Pakistan.

The event was the first of it’s kind at Nottingham College and was organised by students and staff as part of their social action projects in their tutor groups, with the aim to raise awareness and share the diversity of our community.

Culture Day was started by my group to raise awareness on equality, diversity and inclusion. Everyone united as one and were really supportive which lead to a great outcome, so everyone’s hard work paid off.

It is important that everyone knows about and sees other people’s cultures. We did really well and loved the day.

All students came together to express their diversity and different cultures. We had a fantastic turnout and are looking to organise another event like this next year to continue celebrating our students.

At Nottingham College our learners have lots of fantastic opportunities to take part in activities outside of the classroom, including social action projects which see our students come together to work on brilliant causes. So far this year our learners have raised thousands for charities close to their hearts, organised events and activities and come together all in the name of good causes.
