Nottingham College’s EMTEC centre, home to its innovative automotive offer for employers, has been named Technical Provider of the Year at this year’s Bodyshop Awards, which were held in Cardiff on 12th October.

Ben Murphy, an apprentice with Fix Auto, and who trains at EMTEC, picked up the award in the 30 under 30 Rising Star category, a proud moment for both college and for Ben, who joined an acclaimed group of young movers and shakers in his industry.

EMTEC services over 100 bodyshop repair companies including the Sytner Group (incorporating major brands such as Aston Martin, Audi, Rolls Royce, Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz), Gemini ARC, AW Accident Repair and Fix Auto.

Through EMTEC the college offers a range of training solutions, including delivery to over 200 Vehicle Body Repair apprentices and learners, through a truly employer-led partnership approach, with partners co-designing and co-delivering provision.

We have been working with EMTEC on a small scale for some time now and have been really happy with what they have been doing for us. As our business has grown it made sense to scale things up and create programs that help bring new talent into the businesses. EMTEC helped us achieve this by working with us to understand what we required from our apprentices and tailored the program accordingly. They also assisted us with recruitment for all of our apprentices and the communication during this process was amazing.

EMTEC’s Body Repair centre is leading edge and in winning the title of Technical Provider of the Year shows that the college, and its continued investment in this area, is having a great impact on the industry.

The centre is expanding to include motorbikes and other forms of transport and is transitioning its offer to support decarbonised technologies in vehicle repair to align with Nottingham’s ambition to achieve net-zero by 2028. To support this, the college has secured investment to:

• Purchase electric/infrared booths to deliver training in environmentally sustainable paint systems (in partnership with Standox, Lechler and Sherwin Williams)

• Purchase decarbonised vehicles to support training

• Launch an End-Point Assessment Centre for body and paint specialisms, which be available to local training providers

• Fund staff training and upskilling

BSM Awards Ceremony

We’re incredibly proud of our wins at this year’s Bodyshop Awards. To pick up Training Provider of the Year is fantastic but to celebrate with Ben, who is such a worthy member of the 30 under 30 Rising Star Award category, really tops it off. EMTEC develops and supplies talent to the UK and global sector, presiding over a wide ranging training programme covering automotive apprenticeships, specialist bespoke training packages, online training and accredited automotive qualifications.

We are expert collaborators and to win the Provider of the Year award really demonstrates our responsiveness as a training provider and our ability to operate as a strategic partner to those employers we work with.
