News: Explore the history of our Adams Building this September!
Not only is our Adams Building home to many of our courses – including art, design and fashion, but it’s steeped in rich history.
The history of our Adams Building, usually reserved for our staff and students, is being opened up to the public on Saturday 10th September!
Did you know…
- Our Adams Building Campus is Grade II listed.
- It was constructed between 1852 and 1875 for Adams and Page who were lace makers.
- It’s the largest building in Nottingham’s Lace Market!
- Many original features still exist such as original wooden beams, spiral stone staircases, stained glass windows and lilac walls – the colour the workshops would have been back in the 1800’s.
- The upper floors boast fantastic views across the city centre – light and airy rooms were needed to ensure factory workers got as much light as possible! These features are still here to this day and now house lots of creative spaces for our students.
The Adams Building isn’t typically open to the public, meaning the rich history and original features are usually reserved for our students and staff; however this September, Heritage Open Days are giving members of the public the chance to come along and tour our fantastic building on Saturday 10th September.
Come and explore the history for yourself!
