Diana Kassim, a former ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) student at Nottingham College, has embarked on an incredible journey to becoming a Fine Art graduate and a published author. Her story demonstrates the amazing potential that determination and hard work can achieve.

Originally from Yemen, Diana’s life took a unique path when her family relocated to Hungary. There, she met her partner, and together they moved to the UK with their two young children but faced significant challenges upon their arrival in the UK.

Diana initially pursued ESOL studies at Nottingham College, eventually attaining a Level 2 qualification. Her passion for the arts led her to enrol in a foundation degree course in Fine Art at the college. Building upon this foundation, she continued her academic journey by pursuing an Art Degree at Nottingham Trent University, graduating successfully.

In addition, Diana is a gifted writer and has now achieved an impressive milestone by having her first book accepted for publication by a publisher in Hungary. The book is a science-fiction romance and has brilliantly imaginative storytelling. She aims to publish her book in both her homeland and in English, with the hope of reaching a wider audience.

Diana’s son is also currently a student at Nottingham College and draws motivation from his mother’s fantastic journey.

Diana recognises the positive influence her story can have on young minds. Reflecting on her time at Nottingham College, Diana sums up her experience by saying:“It was that very place where I first realised the extent of my significance. I can, I will, and I’m free to pursue whatever I desire.“

We can all be inspired by Diana’s example and strive to unlock our potential through learning.
