Jess Burton, a former High Pavement student, who was previously celebrated for her outstanding AQA excellence project which earned her the AoC Student of the Year Award, is now furthering her studies at the University of Cambridge. In a turn of events, it’s not just Jess who is being recognised for her efforts.

Her tutor, Kyle Hutchinson, has now scooped a University of Cambridge Inspiring Educator award, acknowledging his hard work and dedication in motivating and encouraging Jess and the high levels of care and support given to both Jessica and her peers.’

The award citation acknowledged Kyle’s academic and personal support for Jess, notably during a period when she was grappling with high levels of anxiety. As this year’s recipient, Kyle has been invited to the university’s annual teachers and advisors conference in the capacity of a special guest. He will be attending a formal dinner and will be presented with a certificate and an award of £300 to be used by Nottingham College on education resources such as IT equipment or books for students.

Kyle has also been extended an invitation to join the University of Cambridge teachers and advisors network, a forum where discussions on how to enhance support for teachers and advisors are held, aiming to improve students’ life chances and encourage aspirations for a future at the University of Cambridge.

It was incredible enough to be nominated for the award, so to win feels phenomenal. Jess was such an amazing student and supporting her was a privilege. Everything we do for our students is to make sure they’re on the right path, and seeing Jess move on to Cambridge to follow her dreams, has been extremely validating. I hope all my other students from last year are doing just as well. Knowing we’re having a positive impact on the lives of young people is what keeps us all going in FE. This award helps me see that I’ve made a difference. Thank you, Jess.

It’s a fantastic achievement for Kyle and a worthy acknowledgement of the hard work and commitment he has shown.
