News: Making the most of a College Open Evening

Please note: This news story may contain information that is no longer current or up to date.

If you’re attending a college open evening there can be a lot to take in and remember. Our checklist has lots of top tips for making the most of an open evening and getting your questions answered!

Our next series of Open Evening events are taking place in January and February 2022. Book your place online to come and find out more about life at Nottingham College. We offer the widest range of courses for school leavers in the region — so whatever you’re interested in, we have something for you!

We are still taking COVID-19 very seriously at Nottingham College. At present our events are scheduled to run but we will be monitoring government guidelines and making changes where necessary. We will keep everyone who is booked onto an event informed. Wearing a face mask/covering is now mandatory whilst on college premises. We will provide hand sanitiser on arrival and each event has a maximum capacity set.

Make sure you've booked your space

Booking is essential as we need to know how many people will be there on the evening so that we can plan and manage numbers accordingly. You only need to book one ticket for yourself/the person interested in the course at Nottingham College (you’re still welcome to bring someone along with you!). There are multiple times slots for you to choose from between 5 – 7pm.

If you can no longer attend please make sure you cancel your space, you can do this via your Eventbrite account or by emailing us: events@nottinghamcollege.ac.uk.

Are you going to the right campus?

Our open events run across our different campuses, so you’ll need to go to the campus where the course/s you’re interested in are taught. Don’t worry, our Open Day pages have all the information you need, including which courses are taught at each campus and how to get there.

Keep an eye on your emails

When you book your place, you’ll need to enter your email address, this is so we can keep you updated and send you any information you’ll need about the Open Event. It is also worth ticking the box I would like to opt-in to receive further information from Nottingham College’ to ensure that you don’t miss out on any further events.

Plan in advance!

When you arrive we will give you all the information you need for that campus. If you’re not sure about anything don’t worry — they’ll be plenty of people around to help you.

There will also be course guides available to take away on the night — however you’ll also be able to view or download these online. If you have a smart phone keep an eye out for QR codes that will direct you to information too.

Get your questions answered

Open Evenings are the perfect opportunity to get your questions answered — make a note of any you want to ask before you attend. College staff, course tutors and student ambassadors will be on hand to your answer questions in person, and if you do choose to study with us it means you may recognise a familiar face in September.

Bring someone with you

Feel free to bring along a friend or family member – they may even come up with questions you hadn’t thought of yourself.

Remember, you only need to book a place for yourself and not guests you bring along.

Have a look around!

There is more to our college campuses than classrooms so make sure to have a look around! Depending on the campus, you will be able to visit our industry standard workshops, studios, science labs, salon spaces, construction workshops, learning centres, libraries and much more.

Much more than just your course

During the evening, lots of our friendly student support staff will be available to speak to. Our Wellbeing team will be on hand to talk about enrichment opportunities at the College and our Work Placement team will be on hand to provide information about how you can enhance the skills learnt from your course with on-the-job, practical work experience. Our careers advisors, student finance team and additional learning support team will also be there for you to chat to as well.

Decided you want to apply? Head to the application zone on the day or apply online at home

Each of our campuses will have a dedicated application zone where you can apply for a course online with the help from our friendly admissions team if you wish. September may still seem a long way away, but it is useful to be prepared – and there is no obligation to take up the place at this point in time. Even if you are unsure, it is worth getting an application in as soon as possible!

Applications can be made online and if you don’t apply on the evening then you can do it from the comfort of your own home after the event.
