Becoming the lead provider of apprenticeships and provider of choice for all businesses in Nottingham – this is the mission of Nottingham College’s new Group Director of Apprenticeships and Employer Services, who joined the College just a few weeks ago.

Lisa Wilson joins Nottingham College – the largest further education provider in Nottingham city, and one of the largest in the country, with an impressive track record in developing and establishing apprenticeships and training solutions for businesses across a range of sectors.

Joining at a time of economic instability for businesses, Lisa is keen to use her experience to reach out to all employers and work with them as a strategic partner, positioning apprenticeships and workforce training at the heart of the city’s economic recovery.

We are Nottingham’s College, providing thousands of young people and adults with an opportunity to learn, grow and contribute to a thriving and exciting city, full of fantastic businesses and organisations. We are also the region’s largest college, and want to extend our hand to businesses across the East Midlands to support them in achieving their workforce development priorities.

By combining innovative training solutions with the recruitment of quality apprentices, we are able to deliver the skills and talent businesses need to survive the turmoil that has gone by and to prosper in the future.

This is an exciting time to be joining Nottingham College, and I am both thrilled and honoured to have this opportunity, at a time when apprenticeships and skills for our local and regional employers will be key to ‘building back better’ following the impact of COVID-19.

- Lisa Wilson

Lisa joins Nottingham College from RNN Group, where she was Director of Apprenticeships. In that role she oversaw the training of more than 11000 people a year, including 2000 apprentices, predominantly in the North Notts and South Yorkshire region.

She is a skilled relationship builder and has got to work immersing herself in the local employer landscape. She advocates effective partnerships between college and employer, and is seeking to position Nottingham College as the go-to apprenticeship provider both locally and regionally.

Lisa is looking to strengthen the College’s reputation and recognised expertise in the delivery of training for the automotive sector, the construction industry and in engineering, and seeks to further build on its emerging strengths in the science and healthcare sector. The arrival of the College’s new flagship City Hub campus in Nottingham city centre, which houses its health sciences provision, will benefit trainees in this sector.

Lisa is also looking to respond to the changing needs of businesses looking to further digitise, adapt to low carbon and other technological innovations, and to provide a talent pipeline for businesses looking to recruit into supporting roles in customer service, administration, IT, marketing, accounting and more.

Prior to her senior leadership roles in apprenticeships and training, Lisa worked in merchandising, export sales and business development. Gaining knowledge and expertise in a variety of sectors including retail, electrical and logistics, she then progressed to become a Deputy Director in an international trade role for a not-for-profit organisation. The next step was to make the transition to Director, first at The Skills Company, then Interserve and RNN Group UK, before joining Nottingham College this spring.
