Students have been exploring all that the tech hub” San Francisco has to offer. They visited the Bay Area, which has a high concentration of technology businesses and more specifically Silicon Valley, known as a global centre for high technology and innovation. Throughout the trip, students got the chance to get a close-up look at industry giants like Google, Instagram and Apple!

Our Games Media and IT Turing Scheme trip to San Francisco has come to an end, but our students have gained invaluable experiences and insights into the tech industry during their two-week stay!

The group consisted of students from our Creative Media in Journalism and Marketing, Game Development, and IT courses. Students spent time learning about different sectors within the tech industry, speaking with industry professionals and were shown new cutting-edge technologies along the way.

The students had the opportunity to meet several tech experts along the way. Bill Wang, an XR Developer, who showcased innovative technology and inspired students with his dedication to shaping the future of tech and opened their eyes to new possibilities within the industry.

Students were also invited along to KRON4, the Bay Area’s Local News Station, where the team gave our students a glimpse into the world of live TV. This experience gave students invaluable insights into the workings of a news station and transferable skills and knowledge that’ can be applied across various industries.

Another stop in San Francisco was to the Academy of Art University, where students met Michael Witzel, Director of Esports. The staff and students had the opportunity to learn more about the challenges of Esports and strategies to tackle them. This was a beneficial experience not only students but staff, ahead of our brand-new Esports course starting in September 2024!

The experience has undoubtedly broadened our students’ horizons, shown them the dynamic nature of media and technology. Contributions from experts not only educated but inspired students and they have returned with a newfound excitement and deeper understanding of the possibilities within the tech industry.
