We are currently providing and delivering lots of courses for people aged 19+ who want to upskill and either train or retrain to further their careers. These courses are being partially funded by the Government as part of an initiative that has been designed to help people find work, change career paths and upskill to meet economic demand locally — which means that you may be eligible to study with us for free.

Today (Tues 15 Feb) saw the first of many of these learning opportunities take place at our Basford campus, where members of our construction staff team delivered External Walling Installation and Introduction to Spray Rendering’ to local people in the plastering and building trades, and to people who were looking to add a new avenue to their business.

This course was helped greatly by our elite industry partner SG Weber who regularly supply the college with free materials for our learners of all ages to use. The students today came to us to upskill and learn new plastering techniques with impressive new methods and machinery that our construction team have recently been trained to use. You can see a selection of photos from the day below.

Andrew Slater, 45 from Alfreton owns and works in his own business, AJS Plastering Services and he has been working in the plastering trade for 30+ years. He found out about the specialist part-time course via his British Gypsum professional membership. Of the past 2 days he shared:

When I found out about the course, I was intrigued and when I found out I was eligible for it to be free for me to learn I signed up right away. Learning new methods in my trade and how to use new technology will hopefully provide the potential to generate new work. Thank you, Nottingham College.

Dale Macchiarelli, 32 is a lecturer in the construction department at Dudley College and regularly works with our staff and of the course said:

I’m a lecturer at another college, but I also still work in the trade too. It’s fantastic working with Nottingham College and Rob and his team are very supportive. I knew nothing about teaching or an educational plastering department when I started, and they have kindly helped a lot and shared their knowledge and experience. Working collaboratively is great and I’m looking forward to bringing some of my apprentices to Basford to share some knowledge and best practice.

We are really pleased to be running these Introductions to External Wall Installation and Spray Application’ courses. We are proud to be upskilling local industry and construction specialists in and around Nottinghamshire, whilst showcasing SG Weber products as part of our elite partnership with them.

The feedback has been off the charts from local experts and we are hoping to run many more courses in the future.
