Congratulations to students from our High Pavement Sixth Form who collected their A Level results today (17th August).

We’re delighted to see our learners progress onto their next steps which include university destinations such as Cambridge, Bristol, Leicester, Newcastle and many more.

We are extremely proud of all our students, many of whom are still feeling the effects of the pandemic, but haven’t let this stand in their way. I have seen so many of our students securing their chosen places at university and able to progress to their next steps, which just shows how hard they have worked.

Today is also a big occasion for our teaching and support staff who have been rooting for them every step of the way. Our staff have worked tirelessly to support and encourage our students and today is testament to that.

From me and everyone at High pavement, we would like to wish all of our students the very best for their onward journey, whether that’s a higher-level course at College or university, an apprenticeship, or employment.

Charlize Tomie, who overcame a range of personal barriers was delighted to achieve the A* and A grades she needed to secure her place at Newcastle University to study a Combined Honours in History and Media. She said:

I wouldn’t be here without the support of my tutors. I’ve had a lot to overcome over the past year including Long Covid and breaking my back. I had lots of support from High Pavement who made arrangements for me to study flexibly. I’m delighted with my grades and it has made all the hard work worth it!

Friends Lewis and Holly who both secured university places to study medicine!

For friends Lewis and Holly, it was a double celebration as they both secured the grades they need to pursue careers in medicine! Lewis will be heading off to The University of Bristol and Holly, The University of York.

For Lewis, who discovered he had a heart condition which led to him needing a heart transplant four years ago, his time spent in hospital inspired him to pursue medicine as a career. Today he is celebrating after securing the three grade As he needed to progress onto university and start his next chapter.

He said: It was such a relief when I saw my results and realised I’d done enough to get into my chosen uni. I couldn’t have asked for more from my lecturers at High Pavement who were always there to offer their support. Now I’m excited to start my next chapter.”

Sociology, History and English Literature student Elizabeth is also celebrating her results today after securing the grades she needed to start her dream career as an archivist. Elizabeth is off to Aston University to study English and History and wanted to give a special thank you to her personal tutor, who has supported her all the way!

I’m delighted with my results and was really surprised to achieve an A grade too! I worked really hard but it was still unexpected! I’ve loved my time at High Pavement — being here helped me to realise that I am capable of great things and has inspired me to get out there and achieve. I’ve made the most amazing friends and my tutors, especially my Personal Tutor Anya has been with me every step of the way. Her lessons were always enjoyable and her classroom such a fun environment.”

Jess Burton is also celebrating a dream come true after securing her place at The University of Cambridge to study Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

I started at High Pavement after a bit of a turbulent time with GCSE’s so I really do appreciate that my tutor believed in me, didn’t give up on me and persevered! Everyone here has gone above and beyond to make sure I had all the information I needed, even outside of lessons.

Haaris will be studying Cybersecurity at The University of Leicester after achieving A, B and C grades, a career path which is something he has always wanted to do!

I was so pleased to get the grades I needed and will be going to Leicester to study Cybersecurity. I moved to Nottingham from London two years ago and didn’t know anyone. The friends I’ve made at High Pavement and the support of all my teachers are my two highlights!
