News: Hair and Beauty student Katie tells us about her editorial photoshoot experience

Hairdressing learner Katie tells us about her experience supporting an editorial photoshoot.

Our hair and beauty students have regular opportunities to put their skills into practice through valuable work experience opportunities, partnerships with leading industry names and working with paying clients in our commercial salons.

Katie Shaw joined us to study Hair and Media Makeup before progressing to a full-time hairdressing course to expand her skillset. Recently, an opportunity arose for Katie to support a glamorous editorial shoot for international fashion magazine Mob Journal.

Katie was recommended by the photographer for the shoot, who was aware of her work and the industry experience, skills and knowledge she has built up from studying with us. On the day, Katie helped create the makeup looks, styled the model’s hair and kept the looks maintained throughout the day. When asked about her experience, Katie said:

Alongside the industry experience Katie has gained during her time here, she explained how the in-depth knowledge she has gained are also helping to stand her in good stead for a successful career.

“From hair cutting techniques and colouring hair to the science behind a lot of the processes, I like how we get to learn a lot of things in-depth. I find it very interesting.”

After completing her studies, Katie is keen to continue building her experience and has set her sights on working on photoshoots and film.
