News: Blog: Advantages of College vs. University
In a time of constant change and uncertainty, it may feel daunting heading off to a city away from home to study at university - and expensive too!
It’s reasons like this why many students are now opting to reap the benefits of staying local and studying for a university course in a college environment.
Here are a few more benefits to consider:
Save Money!
We offer a cost-effective solution to studying Higher Education (HE), and our fees are set at an affordable level that’s lower than most universities. Plus, by choosing to stay local you’re also saving money on accommodation.
Small class sizes
Unlike mainstream universities, we offer smaller teaching groups, easier access to your tutors and intensive academic support to enable you to achieve success. You can feel assured that you’ll receive safe, face-to-face teaching.
Supportive study environment
We are able to offer flexible ways of learning on a full or part-time basis with foundation degrees, BA (hons) top-up programmes and HNC programmes available in 13 subject areas.
Location, location, location
Our fantastic city centre location, in the iconic Lace Market, is a great place for students. You’ll study in beautiful surroundings, in our grade 2 listed Adams Building, at our dedicated University Centre — just a stone’s throw away from everything Nottingham city centre has to offer.
Accredited courses
The calibre of our HE provision has been nationally recognised both by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) and Nottingham Trent University, who validate the Foundation Degree and Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Top-up Degrees. The College is also an accredited Edexcel centre for the delivery of Higher National programmes (HNC/HND).
Great industry links
Our HE courses combine the right mix of academic study and vocational experience. We have worked in partnership with various organisations, including Disney World®, Capital FM, and the Nottingham Playhouse, to ensure our programmes reflect the realities of the workplace and our facilities remain relevant and up to date.
Immerse yourself in student life
Studying locally doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the social aspects of student life either. When you join us, you automatically become a part of Nottingham College’s Students’ Union, and there’s always plenty to get involved in.
