As one of the largest providers of construction training in the Midlands, it was our pleasure to host the prestigious Guild of Bricklayers regional competition at our Basford campus on 5th May.

Six colleges from across Nottingham and Lincoln took part in the competition and were judged on the quality of workmanship and finish, as well as good practise, including health and safety, cleanliness and presentation. Representing Nottingham College was Elliot Windsor-Atkin, 19, who battled it out in the Senior category. Elliot, who competed last year in the Junior category, said:

I really enjoyed being part of the competition again. As a tradesperson, you need to work to tight deadlines and be ready to solve problems, so this is really good experience and a great addition to my CV

It was wonderful to be back at Nottingham College and to see students using the skills they’ve learnt on their courses.

This competition is an excellent way to test students’ skills and to give them some experience, alongside their College studies. Competing against others of a similar level helps to build confidence and motivates them to raise their aspirations. I was really impressed with all the competitors this year.
