Course outline

This course will include how to use a sewing machine and accessories and encourage re-using, recycling and restyling old garments to cut down on clothing waste.

This will include printing and dyeing, patchwork techniques, how to hem jeans correctly and how to transform charity shop finds.

Entry requirements

You must be aged 19+ and have a good standard of English as you will be required to complete a short workbook with the help of your tutor.

Teaching & assessment

Tutors will give regular verbal and written feedback. You will be required to complete an Individual learning plan (ILPs) encouraged to set your own personal targets as part of this course. Assessment is ongoing, one to one and group tuition with be provided. A variety of skills will be demonstrated by the tutor.

Progression

There may be opportunities to progress onto other courses both in the community and at Nottingham college sites. The course tutor can discuss appropriate opportunities if you wish to further your learning in this subject area. Students may be able to progress onto other textile craft courses, these may include NCFE Level 1 Award or NCFE Level 2 Award in Dressmaking
