BESA Pipe Exam (including training) — Part-time

Course outline

This course is perfect if you want to get your Class II skills card for the Heat and Vent industry, valid for 3 years.

Modules available:

  • Oxy Acetylene
  • MMA
  • TIG
  • MIG

1 module per session (Thursdays only).

You can come in and take the test for £260 per module per session or do a day’s training for £520 towards the test and then take the test when you competent to pass.

We can provide you a general insight into basic metal working and MIG welding and health and safety knowledge. Well equipped workshops will allow you to make your first steps under expert guidance and tuition.

You will come away at the end of the course with the knowledge and the skills to progress these new found skills wherever they may lead you, be it for your own crafting, a garage workshop or to be that person who’s always handy to know. You will also take away some of your own work to show or display with pride.

You will learn:

  • Applications of welding in today’s world
  • Health and safety knowledge to keep you safe during welding and metal working activities
  • Design and fabrication knowledge
  • Hand skills in forming and shaping metal MIG Welding practice on various material mediums

Test Procedures (before test)

The candidate should be briefed on the following points prior to the test date:

  • The requirement of photographic Identification (passport etc.)
  • Materials, consumables used in the test
  • Option of welds (various choice of butt welds – 1 or 2 joints)
  • Time allowance (recommended maximum 4 hours)
  • Fixed positioning of welds during test
  • Health and Safety requirements (PPE etc)
  • Test specification (reverse bend test and visual inspection etc)
  • Certification procedure and the link to the Skill card application
  • The candidate should prepare all welds before the test (either on-site or at the test centre) to allow the examiner to mark for joint set-up.

You must be aged 20+ in the Heat and Vent industry and have at least 6 months on-site welding experience.
