News: Tom from The Dairy Creative Agency grows his mentoring confidence through our leadership courses
Did you know we offer funded opportunities to employees from small to medium sized businesses (SMEs) in the local area to develop their skills in leadership and management?
Our Smart and Inclusive Leadership (SAIL) project offers a range of courses which enable businesses to up-skill their employees, enabling them to move into higher-level and leadership roles more confidently and competently.
We hear from Tom Walters, who is an Account Director at The Dairy Creative Agency in West Bridgford. After joining the agency as an Account Executive, he was promoted to the role of Account Director and became responsible for mentoring several members of his team. Tom wanted to undertake some formal training to help him with his role and improve his confidence as a leader.
Like many employees from SMEs in the local area, Tom was eligible to take advantage of a funded two-part Coaching and Mentoring course with us. He tells us how the course has taught him valuable skills that will benefit his workplace and enable him to support his colleagues.
The course I undertook with Nottingham College provided me with the necessary tools to support my delivery of coaching and mentoring and allowed me to bounce ideas off other people to help further my knowledge.
The Coaching and Mentoring in the Workplace course covered areas such as the importance of listening and questioning as well as specific coaching techniques and models. As a result of what I have learned I have been able to create an effective coaching plan to help develop my team members further.
Taking part in this course has increased my confidence and understanding of what makes an effective and inclusive coach. I have a better understanding of how I can better support my team as well as those I work alongside externally too.
