Course outline

This course is perfect if you have a creative side, enjoy working with people and are looking for an introduction into the beauty industry.

You’ll learn all about starting your career in the beauty industry, the importance of health and safety, communication and professionalism whilst working in a beauty salon.

The practical treatments will include:

  • Skin care
  • Hand care
  • Applying basic make-up
  • Face painting
  • Nail art

You can expect lots of practical hands-on learning to ensure you master all the basics of the beauty industry and do research into products and their ingredients. As part of your course, you will also be required to obtain work experience

Entry requirements

You’ll need 4 GCSEs at Grade 3-1/D-G, including English Language and Maths at Grade 3-1/D-G or a relevant Entry 3 vocational qualification.


You’ll complete a range of practical and written assignments to support your learning.


Choose to follow with further study at Nottingham College on a Level 2 Hair or Beauty course.

Additional information

You will need to buy a kit and uniform to wear whenever you are at College. Kit and uniform costs are to be confirmed and will be discussed at interview.
