Course outline

This two year course is the perfect step to take if you're looking to pursue a career in the animation industry. The UK animation industry contributes around £400m towards the UK economy each year with job opportunities in the Television, Feature Film, Advertising, Social Media and Gaming.

You’ll learn the skills needed to design digital media products such as: graphic design, digital illustration, animation and motion graphics 3D modelling, digital photography, web design and concept art.

You can expect a course that offers a broad range of practical study, in great facilities with top-of-the-range equipment. You’ll complete a final portfolio of work and exhibit your best pieces in a professional end of year showcase. In the second year of the course, you’ll have the opportunity to work at a commercial design agency where you’ll engage with real clients.

Alongside all of this you'll be studying in Nottingham's Creative Quarter, right in the heart of the action, with access to all of the latest top of the range equipment.

Entry requirements

You’ll need

  • 5 GCSEs at Grade 9-4 (A*-C), including English Language and Maths – both of these must be grade 9-4 (A*-C) or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and maths; or
  • A relevant Level 2 vocational qualification with English and maths GCSE grades 9-4 (A*-C). You will also need a portfolio or showreel of work.
Teaching & assessment

Assessment is continuous and will consist of a portfolio of reports, presentations and creative projects plus a final major project at the end of the year.


Choose to follow with further study at degree level in multimedia or a degree-level programme in digital media. Job opportunities include: web design, graphic design, print or animation.
