Course introduction

This course is perfect if you are 19+ and want to develop your artistic skills and knowledge and you can commit to study in College for 2 days a week.

This course will run throughout the year for 30 weeks. If you are looking for shorter courses we offer a range of 10 week courses for 19+ students.

This is a practical course which will introduce you to a wide range of workshops in; drawing, painting, print-making, textiles, 3D, design skills and creative digital skills.

You will visit local galleries and explore the Creative Industries in Nottingham to broaden your knowledge and inspire your ideas.

Alongside the practical work you will gain transferable study skills in:

  • Research
  • Annotation
  • Planning
  • Time management
  • Presentation
  • Reflection and evaluation
  • Team work
  • Organisation

These skills will support your plans for progression.

The course is designed to help equip learners with the confidence and skills to move towards personal goals and progression onto the full-time Access to Art, Design and Fashion Course.

Please note: Due to the high demand of these part time courses, if you start a course but can no longer carry on, you will not be eligible for a full course refund. If you enrol on a course and the start date passes, you will not be eligible for a course material fee refund. If you get remitted fees and attend your course for free, if you do not attend the first two sessions without letting the tutor know or without valid reason, you will be withdrawn from the course. Course information

NCFE Certificates

This course is for students 19+ who have an interest in developing their creative skills and knowledge.

You must have:

  • English Qualification at Level 1/GCSE Grade 3
  • Maths Qualification at Level 1/GCSE Grade 3
  • Evidence of drawings/artwork and an interest in art and design

You will be invited for an informal interview with an art and design tutor to discuss the course. Please bring some recent examples of your creative art work to the interview.

There is ongoing feedback to support your progress with key assessment points.

After this course you will be able to consider next steps including an application to the Access to Higher Education: Art, Design and Fashion full-time programme.

Please wear practical clothes.

A basic range of materials is provided, however, we recommend all students purchase their own sketchbook, which is available at the Art Shop based on site.
