Ceramics — Working with Porcelain (Advanced) — Part-time
Course outline
This course is perfect if: you have an interest in ceramics, jewellery or enjoy working at a small scale.
Porcelain is the purest ceramic material which is why it is referred to as ‘white gold’.
In this course we will work to extend your skills and further deepen your knowledge of different ceramic processes which lend themselves particularly to the production of porcelain.
You will create paper porcelain from scratch which will enable your work to take on a translucent quality and provide you with additional scope to stretch yourselves in terms of making.
This will enable your design process to play with scale and light and allow your pieces to develop into alternative outcomes.
You will also expand and apply your knowledge of the surfaces and have the confidence to move into glaze technology and creating your own colours.
You can expect to be encouraged to experiment and document your creative process in using this material. You will be supported in developing your own unique style and method of working.
You will receive an induction to our well resourced 3D and Ceramics Studio, excellent tutor teaching, new knowledge and skills in porcelain jewellery, and opportunities to develop your creativity within clay porcelain processes.
Porcelain clay, stains and glazes will be provided on the course. If you want to develop your work further you can purchase art materials at our Art Shop based at 25 Stoney Street
