Course outline

If you’ve had a taste of performing in front of an audience and are hungry for more, or you’ve got a hidden talent for acting or singing and need a bit of help to bring it out of you, this is the perfect course.

Our links with the industry give you lots of opportunities to gain an insight into the industry, and you never know who will be sitting in the audience at your end of year show!

Performing arts can lead to successful careers in a range of disciplines including teaching, management within the industry, theatre technician or professional actor for stage or screen.

You’ll learn acting, voice, devising, and production. You’ll visit the theatre and review performances throughout the year and get a taste of industry practice, you will also have visitors from industry to share their professional experience with you.

You can expect tutors with a wealth of industry experience, the opportunity to explore different texts and the chance to devise your own pieces. You’ll work with students from other courses in creating performance material and you will begin to look at different styles of drama and theatre. You will work in groups, developing effective communication skills and confidence.

Entry requirements

You’ll need 4 GCSEs at Grade 9-3 (A*-D), including English Language and maths – one of English Language or maths must be grade 9-4 (A*-C) (Functional Skills L1 can be used as equivalent to GCSE Grade 3 (D) and Functional Skills L2 can be used as equivalent to GCSE Grade 4 (C) or above.

Teaching & assessment

You will be assessed on practical tasks, projects and productions, supported by a record of written evidence.


Choose to follow with further study on a Level 3 Diploma in Acting or Production, or a range of other courses or career paths that utilise the skills you have gained.
