Working in our well-resourced ceramics department, you will be working on directed and self-directed projects with the support and guidance of our experienced tutor to help build the knowledge and skills to work independently. You may want to develop specific hand-building skills, technical knowledge and creative ideas – design-led or sculptural.
The course is designed to help equip learners with the knowledge to move towards setting up their own studios, there will be a focus on technical knowledge and safe studio practice.
You will receive supportive tutoring, new knowledge and skills in ceramics, and opportunities to develop your creativity.
Basic materials will be provided on the course and if you want to develop your work further you can purchase art materials at our Art Shop based at 25 Stoney Street.
Please note: Due to the high demand of these part time courses, if you start a course but can no longer carry on, you will not be eligible for a full course refund. If you enrol on a course and the start date passes, you will not be eligible for a course material fee refund. If you get remitted fees and attend your course for free, if you do not attend the first two sessions without letting the tutor know or without valid reason, you will be withdrawn from the course. There are no formal entry requirements but you must be aged 19+.
There is no formal assessment.
Once you have completed this course you can progress onto one of our NCFE Entry Level courses that are part of the Ceramics Pathway.
Basic materials will be provided on the course such as an allocated amount of terracotta and stoneware clay. Some firing costs are included, and usage of glazes, stains and underglazes are subject to availability and our fair usage policy. Students can buy additional clay, and other materials for this course may be available to purchase. You tutors will go through these optional, additional costs in the first session.
We politely ask that students arrive to the studio no earlier than 5 minutes before the class to give staff enough time to set up for the session - if you are early you are able to wait comfortably in our reception area at 25 Stoney Street.
