Ceramics — Beginners (Entry Level) — Part-time

Course outline

This course is perfect for any beginner who is learning basic hand-building techniques using clay and is aimed at complete beginners and those who wish to refresh the basics.

Working in our well-resourced ceramics department, you will be guided through the main hand-building techniques of pinching, coiling, slabbing using different clay bodies resulting in finished outcomes – glazed & unglazed.

Alongside this, you will be introduced to a range of different decorative processes using coloured slips and glazing techniques.

Under the guidance and support of your tutor, the aim is for you to build a good foundation of skills and knowledge and understand the importance of safe studio practice so you gain the confidence to work independently on your own ideas.

You will receive an induction to our well resourced Ceramic Studio, excellent tutor teaching, new knowledge and skills in ceramics, and opportunities to develop your creativity.

Basic materials will be provided on the course and if you want to develop your work further you can purchase art materials at our Art Shop based at 25 Stoney Street.
