Course outline

This course is perfect if you want a career in the industry and hold a lower level qualification already, or are already employed and require an industry-recognised qualification to add to your portfolio.

You’ll learn a number of advanced carpentry and joinery techniques and all about carrying out first fix flooring and roofing, building stairwells, organising, planning and pricing work, site health and safety regulations and a range of second fix operations.

You can expect to learn in our state-of-the-art construction centre where tutors will guide you through the different units and build your understanding of the carpentry and joinery industry.

Entry requirements

You’ll need 5 GCSEs at grade 9–4/A*–C, including English Language and Maths – both of these must be grade 9–4/A*–C or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths. You can also gain a place by having a relevant Level 2 vocational qualification with English and Maths GCSE grades 9–4/A*–C. Relevant industry experience may be considered.

Teaching & assessment

Assessment is ongoing throughout the course.

Progression

Choose to follow with further study at college perhaps into a management qualification within the construction sector, or into employment as a carpenter or joiner.
