Sci­ence

With ris­ing indus­try demand for sci­en­tif­ic skills, plus increas­ing pub­lic inter­est in the world around us and how to pro­tect it for the future, choos­ing a Sci­ence course real­ly can open up a mas­sive range of excit­ing career options.

Sci­ence, tech­nol­o­gy, engi­neer­ing and maths (STEM) sub­jects are all high on the government’s agen­da for sup­port­ing the UK’s future com­pet­i­tive­ness and growth. This means that STEM is an area of high invest­ment, with con­stant­ly evolv­ing tech­niques and break­throughs. By choos­ing this route you will be able to devel­op key trans­fer­able skills and enhance your cre­ativ­i­ty, while gain­ing prob­lem-solv­ing and employ­a­bil­i­ty skills. 

Our cours­es are based in our brand new City Hub and cov­er a broad base and open up career oppor­tu­ni­ties in the NHS and in indus­tries such as life sci­ences, phar­ma­ceu­ti­cals, envi­ron­men­tal health, foren­sics and biochemistry.

Laboratory and Science Technician - Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3)

You’ll be working as an apprentice laboratory/science technician, carrying out lab testing and providing technical support to scientists/technicians. You could also work at a school or college.

Pharmacy Services Assistant - Intermediate Apprenticeship (Level 2)

You’ll earn a wage while gaining an industry-standard qualification. It’s a great way to train as a dispensing assistant so you can support pharmacists.

Pharmacy Technician - Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3)

You’ll be earning a wage while gaining an industry-standard qualification. You’ll gain the advanced skills and qualifications needed to become a pharmacy technician.

Pre-Access to Science & Nursing (19+) - Part-time

You are interested in or currently working in the healthcare, social care or science sector or looking to progress onto an Access course.

Pre-Access to Science/Life Science (19+) - Part-time

This course is perfect if you are aged 19 or above and have ambitions of studying Science at Degree Level, but don’t currently hold GCSE grade 4 or above in Maths and English.

New for 2022 – new science centre

A brand new £1.2m science and innovation centre will open in September 2022, offering purpose-built higher level technical facilities for students studying in the fields of biology, chemistry, forensics, pharmaceuticals and dental technologies.

A suite of brand new industrial grade machinery and equipment, including a bench-top NMR scanner, a high performance liquid chromatogram, UV, IR and Mass spectrometers, and for Forensic Science, bespoke ‘crime scene houses’, a blood spatter room and state-of-the-art finger print analysis equipment, have been made possible thanks to a grant from the Office for Students of over £1m.

This is a huge investment in science-related facilities and resources and ensures our science students have access to the very best, industry-leading equipment and tools available.
