Job description
Your future is here
A place to inspire
In a teaching role at Nottingham College you will play a vital part in helping thousands of people reach their potential. We are Nottingham’s College and together, we make a positive difference to our learners, to our communities and to each other. We’re building better futures, for others and for ourselves. Our teachers bring experience, flair, industry connections, passion and care to their roles and in return we invest in them. Here, you have the freedom to work in a way that suits you, the support to thrive and the opportunity to shape your career.
What you'll do and who we're looking for
We are seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and committed Chemistry teacher to join the successful Science team at High Pavement. This is an exciting opportunity to work with our fantastic cohort of learners aged 14–18, delivering high-quality Chemistry teaching within a supportive and high-performing GCSE provision.
The successful candidate will teach across our 14–16 Elective Home Education provision as well as our 16–18 students who are studying towards their GCSE Chemistry qualification. Our learners are diverse in their experiences and aspirations, and we are looking for a teacher who can inspire curiosity, build confidence and enable every student to achieve their potential.
At High Pavement, we have high expectations of both our students and our staff. We are looking for an excellent classroom practitioner who is passionate about their subject, committed to inclusive practice and able to create engaging learning experiences that motivate young people to succeed. You will be expected to plan and deliver high-quality lessons, assess and monitor student progress effectively, provide timely and constructive feedback, and contribute positively to the wider life of the curriculum area.
Professional development is at the heart of what we do. You will join a team that places a strong emphasis on continuous professional development, collaborative planning and the sharing of effective practice. Whether you are an experienced teacher or at an earlier stage in your career, you will benefit from a culture that values reflection, innovation and ongoing learning, with opportunities to develop your expertise and progress professionally.
You will become part of a dedicated and supportive team that embraces both the rewards and the challenges of working with young people. We pride ourselves on building positive relationships with our students, recognising that encouragement, consistency and high expectations enable them to flourish both academically and personally. Our staff work collaboratively to ensure that every learner receives the support and challenge they need to succeed.
This role offers the opportunity to make a genuine difference to the educational journeys of young people studying in alternative and post-16 settings, helping them to develop not only their scientific knowledge but also the confidence and resilience needed for future study, employment and life beyond education.
There may also be opportunities for additional teaching hours from September, subject to student recruitment and curriculum requirements.
The post will be shortlisted against the essential and desirable criteria at the application stage from the person specification. Please ensure that you use the Job Profile and provide a CV and cover letter. This should be no longer than three sides of A4. Please combine your CV and Cover Letter and upload as a single document while applying for the role.
For further details on this post which the job description and person specification cannot answer for you, please contact Chris Allright, Assistant Head by email chris.allright@nottinghamcollege.ac.uk
Interviews / Assessments are planned for: 13/14 July 2026
