Financial Support
The financial aspect of studying a university level course is very important.
The amount of support available and tuition fees will depend on the programme you choose to study and whether you study full or part-time. It may also depend on personal factors, such as your household income.
Special Support Bursary
This offers up to £1,000 per year (depending on household income) and will be based on an individual’s Student Finance England assessment. To be eligible, students must be paying the full tuition fee; receiving their maximum maintenance entitlement; and have an assessed annual household income of £40,000 or less.
| Annual household income (based on Student Finance assessment) | Amount of Maintenance Loan in 2025-26 (assessed by Student Finance): Living at home | Amount of Maintenance Loan in 2025-26 (assessed by Student Finance): Living away from home | Special Support Bursary Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| up to £25,000 | £8,877 | £10,544 | £1,000 |
| between £25,001 and £30,000 | £8,131 | £9,791 | £750 |
| between £30,001 and £35,000 | £7,385 | £9,038 | £500 |
| between £35,001 and £40,000 | £6,640 | £8,284 | £300 |
In order to apply for the bursary, students must also meet the following criteria:
- have been offered a place to study on a full-time university level course at Nottingham College
- be assessed as a ‘Home’ student - subject to the standard tuition fee of £8,250.
- provide evidence of their student finance assessment, showing the Maintenance Loan amount
- not be in receipt of a bursary or scholarship from any other source (such as the NHS)
Evidence of your student finance assessment showing your eligibility for a maintenance loan must be included with the bursary application. Applications cannot be processed without this.
Acceptance on the scheme for the first year of study will automatically qualify the student for the bursary in their second or subsequent year of study, providing their financial situation has not altered. A new application form must be completed for each year of study.
Care Leaver Bursary
Students who are Care Leavers will be eligible for a further £2,000 bursary in each year of study. Students will need to provide evidence in the form of a letter on headed paper from their Leaving Care Worker, Social Worker, Personal Adviser, local authority or another professional person such as their Head Teacher.
To qualify, students must be:
- studying a full-time undergraduate course;
- a UK student under the age of 25 at the start of their course;
Definition of a Care Leaver: Using advice from the national organisation ‘Become’ – we define a care leaver as being: “a young person who has been looked after for more than 13 weeks since they were 14, including some time at age 16 or 17.”
Student Carer Bursary
Student Carers can apply for a further £1,000 bursary in each year of study. This helps to support members of our university level student community, who are also Primary Carers. This is defined as anyone who is an unpaid Primary Carer for a family member who, due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or addiction, cannot cope without their support. Students will need to provide ONE piece of evidence from the following list:
- supporting letter/email from an appropriate medical professional or manager of a Carers' Centre/Young Carers’ Project (or similar Carers’ support organisation).
- document from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) confirming receipt of Carer’s Allowance.
Important Note:
Payment of all university level bursaries is conditional on satisfactory academic progress, academic conduct and satisfactory attendance (above 85%) on the course.
How do I apply?
