Course outline

This is perfect if you’d like to pursue a career in IT, with an emphasis on gaining the right qualification to apply to university.

You’ll learn units including:

  • Principles of computer science
  • Fundamentals of computer systems
  • Planning and management of computing projects
  • Software design and development project
  • IT systems security
  • Business applications of social media
  • The impact of computing
  • Human-computer interaction
  • Digital graphics and animation
  • Website development
  • Computer forensics

You can expect a work-related (vocational) course which will help you gain the skills and knowledge you need in order to work as a professional in the computing sector or to go into higher education, either at the College or at university.

Entry requirements

You’ll need 5 GCSEs at grades 9–4 (A*–C), including English Language and Maths at grades 9–4/A*–C), or a relevant Level 2 vocational qualification plus English Language and Maths at GCSE grade 9–4/A*–C. Functional Skills Level 2 can be used as equivalent to GCSE grade 4 (C).


All units are assessed and graded through assignments.


Choose to follow with an HND/C in Computing and Systems Development, the Level 4 Diploma in ICT or a career in the IT industry.
