Course introduction

This course is perfect if  you have a desire to work in the Automotive Industry, have completed a level 2 in Automotive and are ready to progress to your next level of study.

The course will teach you how to:

  • Diagnose and rectify light vehicle engine and component faults
  • Diagnose and rectify light vehicle chassis system faults
  • Remove and replace chassis units and components
  • Remove and replace electrical auxiliary units and components
  • Contribute to workplace housekeeping
  • Make sure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety

You will also study for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), Vehicle Air Conditioning (YFGAS) and Electric/Hybrid Vehicles (EV) qualifications.

You can expect to put everything you’ve learned into practice in our workshops at Highfields, where you’ll be working alongside experienced technicians from a wide range of manufacturers. Each day you’ll be given a set of maintenance tasks and diagnostics to complete.

IMI Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair

You will need  relevant Level 2 in Automotive and have GCSE grade 9-4 in both English, maths and, ideally, grade 3s in science and technology-based GCSEs. Consideration will be given to 19+ students who hold a Level 2 Functional skills in English and maths, as well as Level 2 Automotive qualification.

You will be assessed by completing written assessments, observed carrying out practical assessments and sitting IMI Online exams for each unit.

You could progress to an Apprenticeship or into employment as a fully qualified technician.
