News: Got your GCSE results? You have lots of options!

Group of students outside our City Hub campus with the text Got your GCSE results? We're here to help with your next steps.
GCSE results next steps

However you did in your GCSEs there are a huge range of study options available, and there are probably many you’ve never even considered before. It’s not too late to change your mind, and there is still time to submit an application to join us at college this September.

Whether you’ve exceeded your expectations and want to change your course or study route entirely, or haven’t done as well as you’d hoped; you have lots of choices available to you and there is still time to apply for a course.

Approach your options with an open mind and think about what you may want to do in the future. This doesn’t mean you have to have everything worked out, you may not even know what type of job you want to do in the future, and that’s okay!

I didn't get the grades I need, what should I do?

If you didn’t get the grades you need and haven’t met the conditions of your chosen course or study option, don’t worry! If you’ve applied to study with us this September already, it’s really important you still come to your enrolment appointment. We’re here to help and our dedicated teams are here to guide you through your options. We’ll ensure you are enrolled onto the right course for your circumstances. Whether that’s re-sits, a different course, or the same course at a different level — we’re here to support you.

If you haven’t applied to study with us yet, don’t worry. We still have places available and are still accepting applications. If you have a course area in mind but are unsure of the level, don’t worry. Apply online and come along to a drop-in enrolment session, we’ll ensure you enrol onto the correct course for your needs.

I want to re-sit my GCSEs…

If you didn’t get the GCSE results that you’d hoped for we offer the opportunity to resit. Dependent on personal circumstances, you may even be able to study for your resits alongside another course.

I’m considering university, further study or want to study more than one subject…

If you’re considering university, further study or would like to study more than one subject with an academic focus then A Levels could be for you. High Pavement Sixth Form is our dedicated A Level Centre and we offer A Levels in over 25 subjects.

High Pavement is a mature learning environment in the city centre. We’re located next door to Nottingham Trent University and you’ll have access to all the help, advice and support you need to succeed, all in fantastic surroundings with great facilities and like-minded people, so you’ll have the opportunity to make lots of new friends.

Because of the range of A Level courses we offer, it means that unlike school sixth forms, we can cater to most subject combinations.

I have a career path in mind…

Have a career path in mind? Our huge range of vocational courses could be for you!

Depending on your current qualifications and GCSE results, you may start your course on a Level 1, 2 or 3 (Level 3 is equivalent to two or three A Levels.)

The range of choice is huge and with specialist facilities, tutors who have worked in industry and courses aligned with careers, a vocational course at Nottingham College means you’ll be perfectly placed to take the next steps towards your future, whatever you choose. Studying a vocational course doesn’t mean you have to enter the workplace straight away either, many of our level 3 vocational students progress onto university or even Higher Apprenticeships.

We have invested in new industry standard facilities for our courses with even more new facilities coming soon!

I want to learn on the job…

College isn’t just about learning in the classroom and an apprenticeship offers you the chance to learn on the job, complete industry recognised qualifications and earn a salary too.

We work with hundreds of employers and have trained thousands of apprentices. Our dedicated business team help to match candidates with vacancies and are here to help you with advice on applications, preparing for interviews and finding your perfect apprenticeship.

Apprenticeships aren’t just available in traditional’ subjects like construction and hairdressing, there are areas you may not have even known offer apprenticeships, like sports coaching, healthcare, dental nursing, teaching, science lab technician and much more!

We advertise vacancies all year round, so if you can’t find a vacancy that interests you at the moment, check our vacancies listings regularly or get in touch with our team.

Want to combine academic and vocational study? T Levels could be for you!

New for 2023 we are offering T Levels in 3 different subject areas:

  • Building Services Engineering for Construction
  • Education and Early Years
  • Health

A T Level is a nationally-recognised qualification that is worth the same number of UCAS points as 3 A levels and is accepted by universities. The qualification gives you a new choice to consider after GCSEs and are an alternative to A levels, apprenticeships and other 16 to 19 courses.

Students enrolling onto these courses will benefit from excellent industry links and state-of-the-art facilities at our campuses across Nottingham. For example, our brand-new £600k simulated hospital ward is set to open in 2023 and will give T Level students on our health courses the experience they need before they enter into industry.
