Course introduction
This course is perfect if you to develop a range of skills and relevant supporting knowledge to help prepare you for applying numbers in business and working in a business environment.
The course will give you an understanding of:
- how different organisations operate
- how to contribute effectively in the workplace
- how businesses process sales and purchases, and the documents and procedures associated with this
You will learn to develop the basic numerical skills needed in the workplace, such as decimals, percentages and fractions, and applying proportions and ratios within the using numbers in business module. This contributes 35% to the overall qualification.
The business environment module introduces students to the skills needed in the workplace, including the importance of teamwork, communication, effective time management and professional behaviour. You will also learn about some of the core finance processes linked to sales and purchase orders. This module contributes 65% to the overall qualification.
You can expect an experienced teacher to teach relevant business skills to explore ways of developing a business from scratch. You will work in groups, pairs and research businesses and understand what makes a successful business. You will learn business terminology and develop effective communication skills. The skills developed are useful in the business environment.
Additional costs include course materials, the first exam and registration fees for AAT. Any exam re-sits will need to be paid for separately.
Course information
AAT Level 1 Award in Business Skills
You will need to be aged 19+ and have a grade 3 or above in GCSE English Lang and Maths or Functional Skills Level 1 in English and Maths.
You must successfully achieve one mandatory unit assessment to achieve this qualification. The proportion of this qualification assessed by externally marked assessment is 100%. This is computer based.
You could progress onto other level 1 courses at Nottingham College or level 2 courses (depending on your current English and Maths qualifications).
