This course is perfect if you have practiced ceramics previously and are wanting to advance your skills in more specialist techniques.
Modules include:
Term 1: Advanced Wheel Throwing Course
Designed for experienced potters, this class focuses on complex forms, large-scale work, altered shapes, and surface techniques. Students should be confident throwers wanting to improve and experiment.
Term 2: Ceramic Mould Making & Slip Casting Course
An in-depth introduction to ceramic mould making and slip casting techniques. Ideal for beginners and those looking to expand their ceramic skills, the course covers creating one- and two-part plaster moulds, preparing and using casting slip, and refining cast forms for firing.
Term 3: Ceramic Surface Decoration & Glazing Course
Explores surface decoration and glazing techniques in ceramics. Designed for intermediate potters, students will learn methods such as sgraffito, slip trailing, underglaze painting, wax resist, and more. Emphasis will be placed on experimenting with texture, pattern, and colour. The final weeks will focus on glazing, including glaze application, layering, and firing.
You will receive an induction to our well resourced Art Department, excellent tutor teaching, new knowledge and skills, and opportunities to develop your creativity. Basic drawing or painting media will be provided on the course. If you want to develop your work further you can purchase art materials at our Art Shop based at 25 Stoney Street.
Please note: Due to the high demand of these part time courses, if you start a course but can no longer carry on, you will not be eligible for a full course refund. If you enrol on a course and the start date passes, you will not be eligible for a course material fee refund. If you get remitted fees and attend your course for free, if you do not attend the first two sessions without letting the tutor know or without valid reason, you will be withdrawn from the course.
