This course is perfect if you want to become more aware of the self-employment opportunities available to you, the skills and behaviours needed to be successful, the practicalities of being self-employed and the support available to you. You will also consider sources of income and types of expenditure, and associated record-keeping. 

You will learn about different types of products or services that are offered by self-employed people in a given sector an describe the working patterns of self-employed people in a given sector. You will learn about the skills and behaviours that are needed to be effective as a self-employed person in a given sector. You will be able to describe sources of income and types of expenditure for a business and the records that need to be kept. Learners will be able to use a range of resources to identify potential areas of support including the internet, banks, financial advisors and libraries.

You can expect interactive, engaging lessons where you will need to complete independent research, present information and discuss ideas. Group work and individual tasks including written and presentations will be used to develop knowledge and understanding of self-employment.

Level 1 Award in Preparing for Self-employment

There are no formal entry requirements but you must be aged 19+.

You will present a portfolio of work on self-employment. 

Other Level 1 courses at Nottingham college or Level 2 courses if you have Maths and English at Level 2.
