Course outline
This course is perfect if you’re looking to get a better understanding of the trade and want to gain some valuable skills that will help set you up as a professional carpenter and/or joiner.
You’ll learn about the many construction materials used in this trade and the building methods used to create a range of products including stairs, doors and roofs. You’ll gain experience using both manual and power tools, work off mobile towers and ladders and learn all about planning projects in a construction setting.
You can expect tutors to guide you through the different units and build your understanding of the carpentry and joinery industry.

Entry requirements | You’ll need 4 GCSEs at grades 3–1 (D–G), including English Language and Maths at grade 3–1 (D–G) or a relevant Entry 3 vocational qualification. With this you will be asked to sit an initial assessment and this must show that you are ready to study English and maths at Level 1. If your results are lower than this, don't worry, we'll find the right course for you. |
Teaching & assessment | You’ll complete multiple choice assessments and practical assignments. |
Progression | Choose to follow with further study at college on a Level 2 Site Carpentry course or move onto another construction trade, or perhaps move into an Apprenticeship with a construction employer. |
